The Nature of Things in Eternity

If I think about it again

Question Wednesday
Bloody Spock
[info]lizzie_marie_23
I know it's Thursday, but I feel like answering questions today and I missed yesterday. As usual, anything goes, but especially moral quandaries (I'm making a list and it's pretty extensive)

Also, there's about 1400 comments in [info]caramelsilver 's Three Sentence Fic-A-Thon, which I will continue to pimp until she tells me she's sick of it.

Ficlets for the Three Sentence Fic-A-Thon
la tour Eiffel
[info]lizzie_marie_23
[info]caramelsilver is amazing and today's her birthday. The three sentence fic-a-thon is still going amazingly strong (over a thousand comments!) so I'm going to post all the prompts I've filled. There's a bunch so it's going behind a cut.

Doctor Who

Doctor Who, Donna Noble, sometimes she had memories that didn't belong to her.

At night she sees things she's not supposed to see, hears things she's not supposed to hear. The most wondrous strange monsters appear to her, as well as the best and worst that this or any world has to offer.

And Donna Noble smiles in her sleep, somehow knowing that this is exactly where she's supposed to be.

Doctor Who, Jack Harkness and Ten (gen or slash), decisions.

Jack is all wrong, never ever changing or staying dead for any amount of time, and the Doctor is scared of touching him or looking at him or even being near him.

But he's even more scared of facing Martha once she finds out he's abandoned his friend once again, since he knows he won't have a good answer to her accusations.

So for now he'll just wait in a terrible limbo, not daring to move or choose, for fear that it will all crumble to dust.

Star Trek

Star Trek xi, Kirk/McCoy, road-trip
Near the end of their five year mission they decide to retrace the steps that led them to each other in the hopes that it will provide some closure. Jim starts off in Iowa among the cornfields and fondly remembers every bar he had visited, while Bones travels from Peach Tree to his alma mater and then goes to check on Jocelyn and Jo.

They arrive at the shipyard together after what feels like an entire lifetime, embracing and saying that they'll never part, ignoring the fact that someday they'll have to.

Star Trek XI, Spock/Kirk, sleepy
Jim yawns, but pretends he hasn't been for the past half hour. Spock raises his eyebrow, as if to say you can't hide anything from me.

He laughs, rolls his eyes, and plants a kiss on the Vulcan's lips before finally going to sleep.

Star Trek XI, author's choice, fallen hero
"Jim Kirk was my best friend," says the man at the front of the stage, and he falters and falls sobbing in a heap. He hears footsteps and then cold hands help him to stand on his own two feet.

"He raised both of us beyond what we ever thought we could be," the smooth Vulcan voice continues for him, "and so we are all each other's best legacy."

I was supposed to take an SAT test yesterday but didn't look at the calendar until tonight. And the e-mail they automatically sent to me was filtered to my "college e-mail" folder so I never saw it. I am such a fucking idiot and everyone in the world should hate me.

In conclusion I probably won't be posting/commenting for a while. I love you all so much and I'll be sad to miss you, but honestly it's for the best

I don't even have any homework to occupy me, and nothing on the internet is worth looking at. Besides the Three Sentence Fic-A-Thon, but I don't know many of the fandoms.

So I'm commissioning you to go out and find me something entertaining or mentally exciting.

What do you want for Christmas more than anything in the world?
Also, which is better, Kermit The Frog or Elmo?

Question Wednesday

[info]lizzie_marie_23
Well, it's that time of the week again. Ask me questions. Maybe this time I'll try to show restraint and not post the answers until next week, but if the questions are as crazy as last week I don't think I'll be able to wait.

Also, I'm continuing to pimp the Three Sentence Fic-a-Thon hosted by [info]caramelsilver . It's getting gigantic and it's really really fun.

Other Stuff:
I cut my hair. It was really random too. I was just at a friend's house and she asked if she could give me bangs and I said she could cut my hair too. I "paid" her by reading my Sense and Sensibility and Star Trek story. Greatest rates EVER!!

Band is quickly becoming the most frustrating class. It's not enough that I can barely sight read as it is but NOW the guy who plays baritone with me decides that it's "more fun&qout; to not play what's written. And when the conductor cuts us of, he keeps playing for about four measures. While they're focusing on the clarinets and trumpets, who really need the help, he's making stupid idiot noises into his mouthpiece. It's fucking distracting and it's giving all of the baritones a bad name. And the worst part? He's actually better at sight reading than me but he won't do his job. grr...

In which I pimp a post

[info]lizzie_marie_23
Hey everyone! come over to the Three Sentence Fic-a-Thon as hosted by [info]comment_fic . But here's the catch: when you fill the prompt it can only be three sentences. They can be as long or short as you want. Go! It'll be fun!

ETA: What the hell, livejournal? I meant to say that [info]caramelsilver is hosting this Fic-a-Thon, but the entry is being stupid. Well, now you know who you can give credit to. :)

Thank you!

This is my thanksgiving post in which I say everything I love!

My family, who's always there for me even when I'm in one of my bad moods.

My grandmother, who taught me how to cook, tells me all my family history and shares my name. In fact, the only gift she hasn't given me is her red hair.

Gene Roddenberry and JJ Abrams, the creators of the greatest show since Doctor Who. Sorry, but the Doctor is my first love.

[info]jessofthebugs and her amazing Dear Daddy series. I love you!

And finally, whoever it was on the ontdstartrek chat who made this macro for me:

ETA: And glug raisins! I never drink the glug itself, but I love how the raisins and apricots get all plump and delicious. They sure do pack a punch though...

Question Wednesday
Lemony Snicket
[info]lizzie_marie_23
I'm taking a leaf from [info]girlflesh 's book and starting up my own question answering frenzy.

It can be anything,
from the simple: What's my favorite color? (green, but I think it's going to be purple soon);
to the metaphysical: How many roads must a man walk down? (42);
to the insane: When's the last time you drove a car off a cliff? (July, in spirit, along with Young!Kirk)

And...Engage!

Because I'm too lazy to do my own homework
Bad Day
[info]lizzie_marie_23
I'm going to ask you all to do it for me. I'm only halfway joking here. I have just been confronted with so much shit in the past few days and I want it to all just go away.

How does the structure of the following passage reveal that despite his masterful command of language for the sake of evil, Iago is batshit insane?

What is the role of objectivity in ethnology and how does it affect the anthropologists practicing participant-observation? Explanations referencing the Prime Directive are invited and encouraged (by me).

Compare and contrast the revolutionary experiences in Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico, especially in regards to the fears and values of the creoles. The buzzword in class has been "crisis of legitimacy", so you get bonus points if you fit that into your answer.

Someone explain how the plus-que-parfait and present participle tenses work and why in the world you would ever need to use them. PLEASE! I HAVE NO IDEA!

And this one that my TOK teacher pounced on us during the last period of the day after we were secure in knowing exactly what we had to do tonight. What makes an event historically significant? This question is so broad that it's impossible to answer all the way.

Thank you all! *hugs and kisses*

Vhat the holy fuck? A kid in some small town was beat up because there had been something going around on the internet saying to attack redheaded people. He had several broken bones and some internal injuries. Fourteen kids were involved in this insanity and no arrests were made. Is there no justice?

"Q" is the cutest recurring character on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He totally reminds me of the Doctor. The continuum? Old people getting bored and just observing? He goes rogue? There's definitely some similarities there...

If honesty is the best policy, then Iago fails at life. Unless honesty just counts as having people trust you whether you're telling the truth or not. In that case, Iago is a genius among men.

Desdemona is so innocent and pure as to be utterly boring. In fact, the most interesting thing about her is when she's singing the song about going crazy and turning into a swan. She's even boring when she dies.

I don't think I'll ever finish Theory of Narnia. Sorry to anyone who was looking forward to it.

Everyone should go read One Hundred Years of Solitude RIGHT NOW.

I'm really bored of the color green. I want suggestions for a new theme. Please and thank you

Okay, I'm going to pimp a few fics because they're so amazing.

Beyond Measure, a series by [info]therumjournals is so beautiful and full of angst. It's all about Kirk loving both Spock and McCoy. It's both sweet and horribly painful at times.

I'll Make it to the Moon if I Have to Crawl, by [info]1297 , takes place at the Academy. It's Kirk/McCoy, but it's also about McCoy's relationship with Uhura.

Run into the Bright Lights, by [info]ever_obsessed , is all about Janice Rand. She and Kirk share a common childhood experience and it brings them closer together. It made me cry at times, but it ends on a hopeful note.

What are you waiting for? Go! Read, read, read!

Title: Pirate, Heal Thyself (Gen)
Author: [info]lizzie_marie_23
Fandom: Star Trek
Characters: Kirk, McCoy, Lenore Karidian, Chekov
Rating: PG-13, for some gore and language
Summary: Instead of joining Starfleet, Jim Kirk signed on to a pirate ship. And instead of becoming a doctor to help people, Leonard McCoy decided he'd rather take them apart.
Notes: Prompt comes from the wonderful [info]tigriswolf on commentfic. The story took on a life of its own, but it's finally done about a month later. I hope you like it. Beta-ed by the equally wonderful [info]caramelsilver who took time out of her busy schedule and looked at it even though she had swine flu. You are amazing, darling, and so patient with my speaking tags.

Because how else could my life be going so beautifully one minute and so terribly the next?

I'll start with the beautiful: GOLD AWARD GOT APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!
and the GSUSA councilwomen think we're awesome and they estimate they'll be able to get about five hundred girls for us.

And the awful. I didn't have enough IB classes so I got an extra class. It's art, and normally that would be awesome, but I'm behind. So I have two weeks to make up what took everyone else ten weeks. This happened over the summer too with the mobiles and I got all bent out of shape.

Ugh, I'm gonna go take a Tylenol or something.

HISTORY!!!
cake or death
[info]lizzie_marie_23
This is something I only learned about five minutes ago, but it's important enough to post about it.

Twenty years ago today, the Berlin Wall was torn down. That is so cool and it was a bloodless revolution. I'm not saying anything about the years beforehand but the actual transition between East/West Germany and a single unified Germany was entirely peaceful. This was seriously something that everyone wanted.
There's a piece of the Berlin Wall in a train station right here in Chicago. Why? I don't know the details. But I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that people are AWESOME.

Other history from longer ago:
  •     The colonial population in the original colonies were divided and diverse. This means that social level, economic stability, and race and all those other lovelies can't be separated. It's like that song, The Bramble and the Rose.
  •     Langley is one of the most annoying historians I've read. Also on the list are LaFore, William Manchester and Barbara Tuchman.
  •     I love The American Pagaent! it is one of the coolest US History Texts I've ever read. Also, Joseph Ellis makes the Founding Brothers so interesting and, I don't know, so human. Adams and Jefferson is my favorite OTP ever.
  •     "The Ants Go Marching" is the same tune as an American Civil War song called "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"

  1. I changed my theme/background. It's green and oh so pretty.
  2. Why so cute, John Barrowman? I seriously have no idea why I'm suddenly obsessed with him, but I finally allowed my family to watch Utopia. For months I've been lobbying against watching any new episodes because we only have the first three seasons. But oh my god, wow!
  3. I brought out my snowman nightgown and my monkey pajamas. They make me feel pretty.
  4. Working on Theory of Narnia, which is mostly [info]lassiterfics fault. Not that I'm upset about that, mind you. Personally I think it's brilliant.
  5. Got new icons. Lots of stuff for [info]movementmvt and some Series of Unfortunate Events.

In which life goes by too fast
doorway (red)
[info]lizzie_marie_23
A woman at my church died on Wednesday and I just got back from the funeral. She was a pillar of the community, and everywhere you looked she would be there. WELCA, Gardening Club, Ravenswood Homeowner's Association, Holiday Market. Her favorite color was red. She knew the second and third verses to every Christmas Carol. She made the best apple pie in the world. She was relatively young and there wasn't any illness that warned us. It was all just so sudden. I kept expecting to see her laughing with the pastor or helping out with the reception and of course she wasn't there.

Both of her kids are in college, but they came home for the funeral. I couldn't think of anything to say. Even though I knew of her and about her, I never talked to her much and now I  wish I had. But she was in the prime of life and you think you have plenty of time to get to know someone and she's gone.

It just makes me think, you know? One thing I've definitely decided is that I don't want to die, and when I do, I want to be remembered as someone who was worth knowing. I want people to celebrate and not feel sad. Because comfort belongs to the living and I want everyone to benefit from it.

I'm a bit morbid lately. Sorry if this is depressing, but I needed to get all these thoughts off of my chest.
