oops it's been two years
general update on my life -- I graduated college in May, I'm sharing an apartment with a group of friends, I have a queerplatonic partner who's still a senior but once she graduates we'll live together, I've started identifying as genderfluid, I had an internship at Victory Gardens Theater over the summer and now I'm stage managing a Halloween show in my church basement.

Life Lessons for the Day
bloody Spock
1) Annelids are fudging awesome. Seriously, have you ever looked at one moving? I did for about 45 minutes today
2) Directors have the hardest job, besides maybe stage managers.
3) Writers are by default bad people. After all, our job is to put characters in lousy situations and then force them to figure a way out of it. So we need to be a bit ruthless. Good people, maybe, but lousy gods.
4) I love Snow Patrol with all my heart because their songs echo stories that I wrote without knowing how much I was influenced by the lyrics.
5) Climbing trees in the rain and wind is one of the best experiences to remind you that you're alive.
6) Time management is not my friend. I want to get to know it, but it can't be bothered to slow down and explain its mysterious ways.

Back for a meme!

So I just learned about http://vocaroo.com/ and I think I'll give it a shot!

Put words in the comments and I'll read them out loud so you can hear my melodious tones. Or ask me questions and I'll answer them in the spoken word.

a love letter of sorts to my flist

thank you. for being there, somewhere across the bundles of light and wire. because you're a voice in the darkness when i'm too upset to see what casts this shadow. somehow talking to you makes everything a little bit better and you are enough to restore my faith in humanity, my faith in myself. please know that even when i don't comment on your posts, i appreciate knowing what's going on in your lives.

special love to little_lady_d and her commit logs, zempasuchil and her enthusiasm for all things latin-american, and caramelsilver for our correspondence of two and a half years!

Story Requests
Hello, darling l-j-ers!
I have returned to my home base, if briefly, to tell you that I still exist and appreciate all of you.

If anyone wants to request a story/ficlet from me, this is the place to do it. Or, ask for a timestamp of one of my earlier stories. Or do that thing where you tell me about your favorite story I never wrote. I'm not picky, I just want to write.

Also, I'm looking for some stories I read once and then lost track of:
Draco Malfoy plays the piano and falls for Ron Weasley
Lupin watches rats to see if he can find Pettigrew
Peter and the many definitions of "rat"
Laertes and a fever dream style story featuring the phrase "Hamlet! Oh, God, Hamlet!"
Jadis in the desert

Love you!

*resurfaces briefly*
Three and a half weeks until I'm done with my sophomore year of college! It's been pretty fantastic, and for those of you who don't know, I've declared as a Theater major with a minor in Anthropology. Basically it boils down to "I love people and talking to and about them"

In related news, I've discovered my love for the following musicals: Company, Sweeney Todd, Spring Awakening, The Hired Man, Sunday in the Park With George, and so many others.

I'm taking Latin American Studies and love it. Share your thoughts about conquest and race relations of the 1600s-1700s.

I'm almost on the dating stage with a boy who's sweet and interesting and isn't pressuring me to do anything. This might work out. :)

My triumphant return
So it's been not quite four months since I last posted on livejournal. I've been busy with stuff and nonsense and then my computer had an existential crisis. Tell me about yourself now. Ask me questions, make me write stories, whatever. I'm open.

I adore everyone.

oh yeah, and it's my birthday. go figure.

In 2012, lizzie_marie_23 resolves to...
Give up chorus.
Put fifty bubbles a month into my savings account.
Tell my family about white elephants.
Admit my true feelings to caramelsilver.
Ask my boss for a fanfiction.
Take crantz writing.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

yes, these are fairly accurate, if by white elephants you mean mountains, and I think caramelsilver already knows my true feelings. In case she doesn't: You are my BOF and fill my life with so much joy and I'm delighted to know you.

Returning for the purpose of continuing a meme
1. http://en.wikipedia.org
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post in your own journal.

Seriously, this one was too hilarious to resist.

The final productCollapse )

In other news, I depart for Chile for an Anthropology class in a little less than two days, which is both exciting and terrifying. I barely know any Spanish, and I'm sure there's something important I forgot to pack, but besides that, I think it's going to be a brilliant trip. So this is probably my last  post for another month. Don't worry; I'll take lots of pictures.

You want to write for this, I know you do! It's super low commitment and you can prompt all manner of fandoms. I've already made a new friend bonding over academia. I'll post my stories once I've written more than four

Creative stuff you should get involved in

Yeah, go write about ghosts! I fully expecttwoskeletons and zempasuchil to participate, because it seems right up their alley, but really all of you should go play in this playground.

And since I'm pimping things, this poetry fest is winding down, but it's still open if you want to participate

This should be fun!

Website Blocking

The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users

It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

Chaos for the Internet

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

Get on the phone and call your representative. Express your disapproval. Tell him or her exactly how you feel, and that you don't support this. Tell your friends to call their representatives, their Congressperson, and complain. Mention that you are a registered voter that takes your civic responsibility seriously and that you will use that vote to express your feelings about this.

“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.”  The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.

Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.

You all know the rules. Some of these are super obscure and for some reason I had three artists repeated. I don't even know. Good luck!

  2. All these things that I have done, the hours I have spent
  3. I don’t know what I said or what you heard/ Can’t say if you will or if I would
  4. [not the first lines] Chasing through the cold December nights, one foot on the sidewalk, one foot in the sky
  5. I can understand you’re living in a prison/ I know you can only see me as a vision
  6. We owe this breeze to the power. We owe this shade to the tree.

Many Things
1) ERASUREATHON is now open for signups Basically you take someone else's work and remove some of their words to create something that was always there in the piece.

2) Narnia Big Bang! I'm continuing to write about Jadis and her life history(s). 2000 new words so far.

3) I love languages. Last night, zempasuchil and I spent roughly two hours editing a Spanish summary of a play I was in last year.

3.5) I'm doing a powerpoint presentation on the Gods of Mesoamerica, both before and during the conquistadores. If you have any resources or just want to chat, that would be awesome

4) Die Anstalt, or The Asylum is the greatest game I've seen in a while. The premise is that these stuffed animals have all sorts of psychological issues and you need to make them better. I recommend doing the crow last because he's a) the easiest to mess up, and b) the most fun story by far.

5) Last Night I filled my notebook and started a new one. I'm currently on number Nine in four years.

6) I've been reading through asofterworld.com and it makes me smile.

7) I have some of the best friends in the world IRL.

Questions for my Shakespearean Friends
doorway (red)
1) Who wants to beta-read a story in which Horatio is an evil mastermind who messes everything up? It's about 4.5K and really needs some work.
2) Your thoughts on Gertrude, tell them to me. Ditto for Ophelia.
3) Draw connections between each of the four Henrys in Henry IV. I really want to know what other people think about them and if there's a world where Hal and Hotspur could have been friends.
3.5) Would you read a Siken-ish poem about them?
4) What do you think about Falstaff? Is he more than a buffoon?
5) How do the histories compare to what happened in real histories. I've only read Henry IV and Henry V, so I don't actually know that much about them, but don't let that stop you.
6) Any other thoughts about the bard and his works are much appreciated.
